Beginners Band Class
This band class is for kids who receive lessons and are at least grade 1 level. Feel free to sit in on a rehearsal to see what they get up to. Here you can see them performing at their latest gig playing the song Knock On Wood from the Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 2. Their set list current includes, Somebody That I Used To Know, Come As You Are, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Counting Stars, Believer, Ordinary, Take Me Out and Lose Control. Parents are welcome to sit in on rehearsals.
Intermediate Band Class
These kids also received instrumental lessons either at Blackwood Music Academy or somewhere else. Want to see what a rehearsal look like? Just send us a message. Here they are playing Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine. Their current set list includes, Do I Wanna Know, Hotel California, Take Me Out, Killing In The Name, Paranoid, Johnny and Mary and Johnny B Goode.
Senior Band
Our members of this band are all upper secondary or have left school all together. They are on the verge of starting to properly gig by themselves. They have a wide a varied set list of around 40 songs. Too many to mention. But between them they have 3 singers, piano, 3 guitarist who can all play bass and a bass player.
The Fogies - Adult Band Class
Our adult band class consists of two groups. More experienced and less experienced. They play a variety of gigs for charity and fun. Their set lists consist of music from the 50’s to the present day. There’s a great community atmosphere and they can often been seen attending gigs together. The last one being ACDC. We would welcome guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals and you’re welcome to come along to see a rehearsal.
You don’t need to be a student of Blackwood Music Academy to take part. We have students taking part in our bands from Rookie Rockstars Falkirk, Brian Hurren Music Academy, all local schools and private tutors. Our adults band participants are a mixture of self taught to used to be taught and have forgot!!!!
We offer a unique service which coaches bands for adults and kids. Or how about playing in a band with your kids. It’s all possible.
Our head of rock and pop band coaching is Karen Blackwood. A classroom music teacher for over 20 years and a seasoned performer. She plays guitar, bass, piano, drum kit, trumpet, ukulele and sings. So you are in great hands.
All you need is a basic knowledge of your chosen instrument and a willingness to make music with others. Parents are encouraged to stay with kids if they’d prefer that. There will be a PA/microphones and drum kit already in the hall. All you need to bring is your instrument and amp if needed. We play a variety of gigs in various locations. Our next gig will be on the 7th of March at the Dobbie Hall in Larbert in aid of Strathcarron Hospice. If you’d like to see what we get up to please come along for a free visit and we’d love you to take part if you feel able. We hire Larbert Tryst Chruch for rehearsals. Adult band class (affectionately known as the fogies band - named by the kids classes) take place from 6.45 until 7.30 on a Friday evening. We have two bands, one for more and less experienced players/singers. We have three kids classes running on a Saturday from 11.45 until early afternoon. Our beginners class (grade 1 - grade 3), intermediate class (grade 4 - 5) and our senior band ( grade 6 upwards).
