Be part of a band or learn on your own.  We can teach you many skills at your choosing. How to read proper music, tablature, scales, modes, chords, theory or just learn your favourite songs (all the way through!).

Please bring the BEGINNERS SHEET along to your first lesson.

How long are your lessons?

Our lessons are 1/2 an hour for group and individual for 2 reasons:

Concentration Span

A child can concentrate for an average of 2-3 minutes for each year of their life. Adults generally concentrate well for 20 minutes.

Physical Ability in Beginner Guitarists

Playing the guitar involves lots of muscles which need developed and your skin does need to adjust to the strings. A prolonged class will not benefit either of these developments. Sore fingers are not nice!!!

Group lessons

Within our group lessons you are never left to sit and practice. We work our group as a group. We don't offer group lessons which are really individual lessons shared.

Cost

Our cost for group lessons is £40 per month.

Information for budding under 7 year old guitarists!

If your little one is under 7 years old and really wants to play the guitar it might be possible. Not for all but certainly for some they will manage. Below are some points to think about before they start. I'm always happy to see them before they start so that I can help you decide if this is the right decision. Be assured that I wouldn't take your money for lessons if I thought that your wee one wasn't going to manage. That's why it's probably best to see me before starting. I can give them a quick few tests to check they're ready to be the next rock star!!!! Parents must attend and assist with practice at home.

This will be a commitment from both of you as you'll probably need to help them practice.

  1. They'll need a 1/2 size guitar or potentially a Yamaha Guitalele.

  2. Do they have the physical ability to push down a string and co-ordinate plucking and pushing at the same time? No other instrument has both hands doing different things.

  3. Be aware that they won't progress as quickly as a 10 year old and that progress will be slower.

  4. Can they follow instructions on where to put their fingers? If we were to say: "put your finger on string 3 fret 2", could they understand that?”

  5. Remember that you will need to help them practice every time they practice and you will need to attend the lesson too..

“Great teacher. My son has gone from beginner to grade 5 guitar under Blackwood Music Academy’s tuition. He has also used FaceTime when I couldn’t get him to his lesson. Good balance between fun and theory. Definitely recommend.”
